Having had my Pinz for a couple of years now, it's time overdue to start the conversion to a camper, and there's a deadline as we're off to the Pyrenees at the beginning of July.
Steve has been a gem, having sorted out the major elements that are beyond me, such as fitting a new 12V alternator (mines ex-Swedish utility) that give 80 amps rather than the measly 50/55 amps for the stock alternator; having the fuel pump reconditioned; sorting out a fault in the electrics; welding on a proper wheel carrier; putting in new injectors; fixing in a new ebersbacher diesel heater with separate tank.... and the list goes on and on.
Fortunate for me, Steve's mother-in-law lives a few miles away from where my Pinz is kept, (I live in London and the Pinz isn't allowed in the Low Emission Zone, unless I pay £100 each day it's driven!), which is really handy. Lost count of how many days Steve has helped out, and his help and expertise are invaluable to anyone who has a Pinz or is thinking of getting one. Apparently heaps of people monitor the forum pretty regularly, as it's good to see what Steve's up to next, although not many people post themselves, hence why I thought I'd put something down now.
Mauricio on "TIRE BENT INWARDS, PINZGAUER ROOKIE"
Hello,
I am totally happy with finally purchasing a 1972 Pinzgauer 710K with 23,000 original miles (according to previous owner) after 10 years of watching and drooling over Pinzaguer pictures.
i have several concerns about the Pinz and my mechanical skills are zero. One of this concerns is that one of the tires (the passenger back tire) seems to be bent inwards, it the only one, the other back tire is just slightly bent inwards, I tried to ask previous owner, he wouldn't know, I am fearing possible axel damage. I just drove the Pinz for a couple of blocks.
If any body knows, any help is welcome
thanks,

Andrew on "Cooling system simplified"
Hi Steve, I own a 718 P93 ex Malaysian Army Pinzgauer and I was wondering if it's ok for me to simplify the cooling system. I don't need the heater and if I decide to take them off, and run the cooling hoses just like a volvo D24T set up will it have any setbacks? I noticed there is a electric water pump on one of the hoses leading to the heater. Can I eliminate that too? I'm still learning about the pinzgauer as I go along refurbishing mine. Thanks in advance.

Dancni6 on "Pricing a 712M with modifications"
I am looking to purchase a 1975 712M. It has been modified with side passenger doors behind the front cabin. The owner tells me that this modification is known unofficially in Pinz circles as the "712S." He is asking $35,000 American for it. My research of non-modified 712M's has the average price at $25,000 American dollars for a fully restored 712M Pinzgauer.
This 712S has significant rust damage that has been repaired with Bondo and been repainted. The rear cabin bas been sprayed with a truck bed lining material known as Rhino Liner. The canvas too appears in decent shape. It was bespoked for this modified Pinz so that the rear passenger doors could still function with the soft top down. It is missing all but one rear seats. A front cabin side window is broken. I took one photo to display this passenger door.
What is a fair market price for this vehicle?

Steve on "2016 War and Peace Show"
Again a few of us went down to this years War and Peace show, it was a lot quieter this year which gave it a plus for us. We could get around the trade stalls a lot easier.
Also found a nice spot to camp and erect the cammo net to keep some of the sun off our backs.

Mauricio on "Metallic noise when Motor running within oil pan, also oil leakage form inner wall of tire"
Hello:
Thanks for helping me out last time, it turned to be nothing, however I am again in need of experts in the matter:
Today I started the engine on my 1972 710K Pinzgauer, and all of a sudden a metallic noise started It almost sounded like it was
from within the oil pan,
So my guess was one of the oil pumps that feeds the engine might be busted, Would it be possible, and if so, is there any
way to have it repaired or do you need to buy a new one?
And also I have a problem with a oil leak from the inner side of the tire, what could be causing that?
Thank you very much for helping me out
Greetings,
Mauricio
Steve on "Vector"
Vector
There has been quite a lot written suggesting that the Vector vehicle was not fit for purpose. A lot of the criticism levelled at the vehicle should really have been aimed at the requirements asked to meet, and to the uses the vehicle was put to.
The vehicle project was an Urgent Operational Requirement (UOR) that took less than a year from initial concept to delivery to Afghanistan. The level of armouring was dictated but with some very tight requirements on manoeuvrability usual being ‘Improved Medium Mobility’. To the best of knowledge there wasn’t a product that could meet all these requirements.
The original Pinzgauer had a good level of reliability, partially due to the good margins in the strengths of components. Increasing the weight of the vehicle, whilst still maintaining the manoeuvrability naturally meant that these margins were eaten into, and so failures started to be seen- particularly where the vehicle met very harsh ground conditions or was overladen and hence updates were introduced during the vehicle life to address these problems.

Steve on "Mr Pinz"
I was asked to carry out some work on a Pinzgauer 718. Well when I arrived the other day I thought that I had arrived in Pinz land
The owner John has so many Pinzgauers and Haflingers I couldn't believe it. How his wife puts up with it I don't know she must get a lot of holidays of the back of his hobby.
John has a nice P80 718 and then this new 718 that he is rebuilding. I love the paint work real nice spray job he has had done. Only hope that he doesn't green lane it with such nice paint work.
I think that I will be calling John Mr Pinzgauer from now on, he also has 2 718s as you can see sitting on trailers that he is using for parts, and I spotted 2 Haflingers in his drive and garage. Last but not least I can only describe as a dream vehicle was a Vector sitting on his lawn.
I spent a couple of days doing various jobs on the new 718 which is his current ongoing project.
